Project Description:

With its special initiative "EINEWELT ohne Hunger" (ONE World without Hunger), the BMZ wants to make a significant contribution to reducing poverty and hunger. The module objective of the project Soil Protection and Rehabilitation of Degraded Soil for Food Security ProSoil therefore is: Approaches to sustainable soil protection and soil rehabilitation have been broadly implemented in Kenya. Intervention areas are the three counties of Siaya, Kakamega and Bungoma in Western Kenya.

The focus of the country package is to support small farmers in implementing best practices for soil protection and soil rehabilitation in the 3 districts.

The project started in February 2020. We are now looking for an International Teamleader, who can take over the project from August 2020 onwards. Teh project will end in June 2021, an extension is envisaged

Duration of Assignment: 12months with possible extension

Project Status: ongoing project

Essential tasks of the International Team Leader:

  • Technical and financial administration of the project according to GIZ standards
  • Support to the GIZ responsible in the implementation of the country package with management and cross-sectional tasks, impact-oriented monitoring, communication and knowledge management (in particular on the subject of soil protection)
  • Supporting the GIZ responsible in updating and/or adapting the design of the country package and regular reviews coordinated by the steering unit
  • Cooperation with strategic partners
  • Advice and management of national long-term staff as well as national and international STEs
  • Contribution to the conception of Human Capacity Development measures and to the implementation of training and HCD measures on site
  • Contribution to the implementation of accompanying research measures
  • Control, consulting and quality assurance of local service providers
  • Close cooperation with the other fields of action 2 and 3 of the country package
  • Consideration of "do no harm" and "leave no one behind" principles

The following qualifications and competences are required for these tasks:

  • University degree (Diploma/Master) in Agricultural Sciences, Agroecology, Tropical Crop Production, Soil Protection/ Soil Science or a comparable relevant course of study
  • Fluency in English, knowledge of German is a strong asset
  • 6 years professional experience in the agricultural/rural development sector.
  • 3 years in counselling local decision-makers
  • 3 years of leadership experience as team leader in projects or manager in companies;
  • 3 years of experience in the implementation of public funds (e.g. management of local grants, resource requirements planning, compliance with German/European procurement guidelines)
  • experience in projects in the East African region, of which 1 year in projects in Kenya
  • 3 years experience in DC projects
  • Communication skills (evaluation in the context of concept presentation)
