Junior Professional Officer (JPO)/Beigeordnete Sachverständige (BS)

Beigeordnete Sachverständige (BS) sind international bekannt als Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), Associate Experts (AEs) oder Associate Professional Officers (APOs). Die Bundesregierung hat mit etwa 20 Internationalen Organisationen Abkommen zur Förderung von deutschen Nachwuchskräften als Beigeordnete Sachverständige geschlossen. Die Federführung des Programms liegt beim Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ); das Büro Führungskräfte zu Internationalen Organisationen (BFIO) ist verantwortlich für die Durchführung des Programms. Angesprochen sind Bewerber/innen mit deutscher Staatsangehörigkeit und mit erster Berufserfahrung nach abgeschlossenem Hochschulstudium.

Da es sich um ein Nachwuchsförderprogramm handelt, sollten Bewerberinnen und Bewerber im Regelfall zwischen zwei bis vier Jahren Berufserfahrung haben. Junior Professional Officer (JPO), Policy Analyst, Innovation, Istanbul
Sector/Unit: Bureau for Policy and Programme Support, Global Innovation, Team, Global Policy Network
Duration: 2 years with the possibility of extension for another year
Please note that for participants of the JPO-Programme two years work experience are mandatory!
 

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Research and Analysis for the global learning function of the SDG Acceleration Lab Network (30%): Conduct and compile research on emerging lessons from UNDP’s growing network of SDG Acceleration Labs and from partners pursuing similar work-tracks; Collect, analyze and compile data and lessons from UNDP Country Offices to share salient insights with the global team, clients in Country Offices and Labs, and external partners; Conduct and support research on emerging ways of implementation and evaluation in SDG Acceleration Labs and among other UNDP innovation initiatives
  • Communications, outreach, and networking (30%): Draft insight papers, blog posts, and other thought pieces that compile emerging lessons from SDG Acceleration Labs; Manage, design, develop and disseminate regular outreach products to the global Lab network; Create and manage communication and exchange channels for the global SDG Acceleration Lab network and partners; Support outreach to change makers in the field of innovation and expand partnership base for UNDP and the SDG Acceleration Lab network
  • Management (30%): Support the core project management functions including the coordination of Project Board meetings, development of relevant briefing materials and project progress reports. Participate in relevant global and regional management meetings on innovation and related to the SDG Acceleration Lab network. Support relationship management with partners. Support operational affairs of the project including procurement, partnership formalization and financial management.
  • Other (10%): Support advisory services on innovation to UNDP Country Offices and SDG Acceleration Labs including the design of relevant learning and training materials. Contribute to the constant evolution of UNDP’s innovation portfolio and the growing SDG Acceleration Lab network.


Profile of qualification:

Education:

  • Master’s degree the areas of international development, design, social innovation or gender studies, journalism, knowledge management, new media, or related fields.


Experience:

  • At least two years of relevant professional experience, preferably in the intersection of (social) innovation and development.
  • Experience in either the innovation sector or global development with sufficient knowledge and demonstrated curiosity for the other sector would be an advantage.
  • Experience in working collaboratively in a team structure in a multicultural environment
  • Experience and interest in social innovation
  • Experience in knowledge management and organizational learning
  • Experience in research, analysis and writing


Key Competencies:

  • Written and oral fluency in English
  • Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is a strong advantage
  • Long-term commitment to international development is an asset
