MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES/ÄRZTE OHNE GRENZEN e. V. (MSF-Germany) is the German section of the international medical aid organisation Médecins Sans Frontières which provides medical humanitarian aid in emergencies and other crises. MSF-Germany supports MSF’s global operations by recruiting personnel for field deployment, raising public awareness of humanitarian issues and fundraising. MSF-Germany is one of 21 MSF sections worldwide. The German section currently employs 150 staff members and seconded in 2017 around 290 staff to MSF projects worldwide.
As Head of the HR Department you are responsible for the operative and strategic Human Resource Management of the German section. This includes the HR Management for office staff as well as the recruitment, deployment and development of medical and non-medical field staff. As Head of Department you supervise a highly professional and motivated team of 28, with direct line-management of three team leaders. You ensure responsible employership, correct HR administration and the recruitment and retention of a diverse and qualified workforce. As part of the Management Team you contribute to the overall management, leadership and development of MSF-Germany. Within the MSF network you represent the German section on international platforms, actively contributing to the overall HR strategy.
You have at least ten years of relevant work experience incl. five years in senior management, preferably in an international NGO. You have strong interpersonal leadership skills as well as the capacity to think strategically and to translate ideas into tangible plans, budgets and reports. You have a genuine commitment to humanitarian principles and a high ability to withstand stress. Aside from excellent written and oral English you have a solid command of German (B2). Ideally, you have a professional training in HR and previous experience in areas like organisational development, learning and development, diversity and inclusion. Previous humanitarian field experience would be a strong asset.
