SOS MEDITERRANEE Deutschland e. V. (SOS MED Germany) is employing a Head of Fundraising to implement strong core fundraising infrastructure and expand our funding base.

SOS MEDITERRANEE (SOS MED) is a rapidly growing network of humanitarian civil society associations. Currently it consists of three European associations in Germany, France and Italy. The network’s principal objectives are to save the lives of people in distress at the Mediterranean Sea, to protect and assist those who have been saved and to testify about the realities and the many faces of flight and migration.

In March 2016, SOS MED started operating its rescue ship Aquarius in the Mediterranean. The Aquarius is a 77-meter-long former fishery protection vessel, which has been adapted for search and rescue operations. Our ship has been the only civil society vessel operating without a break in the central Mediterranean since March 2016. SOS MED has partnered with established NGOs such as Médecins du Monde and Médecins Sans Frontières who provide medical care and psychological assistance aboard the Aquarius. In 2016 alone, SOS MED rescued over 7,000 people from distress at sea and provided care for another 4,000 who were taken on board from other ships.
